白茫雪山

在青藏高原南延部分横断山脉的中段，有一个典型的峡谷区。雪峰连绵，林海莽莽，还有金沙江及其支流珠巴洛河从雪山丫口流出，流过分布在雪原林海之中的藏族村落。这里，就是1988年5月由国务院批准的国家级自然保护区——白茫雪山自然保护区。
在白茫雪山自然保护区高远广阔的胸怀里，许多珍禽异兽和谐、自由地繁衍生存着，呈现一种大自然祥和广博的氛围。这里有国家重点保护一类动物云豹、雪豹、黑鹿、拟兀鹫、金鵰等，有数量和品种较多的猕猴、短尾猴、小熊猫、金猫、林麝、金钱豹、马鹿、水鹿、毛冠鹿、石貂、岩羊、高山雪鸡、白马鸡、铜鸡、白鹇、角雉、虹雉等，还有不计其数的豹猫、大灵猫、黑熊、棕熊、斑羚、獾、狐、兔和各种鸟类，不愧为动物的乐园。那莽莽的林海中，特有树木有国家重点保护的澜沧黄杉、大果红杉、油麦吊杉、云南铁杉、红豆杉、帧楠、黄杜鹃等，尤以黄杜鹃种类丰富，构成林海花海奇妙景观。在白茫雪山自然保护区的怀抱里还可寻觅虫草、贝母、知母、天麻、胡黄连、黄芪、茯苓、木香、大黄等珍稀名贵药物。
白茫雪山自然保护区有令人心醉神迷的景观。在冬季，千里冰封、万里雪飘，游览之人可尽情领略雪域风情。夏季的白茫雪山，冰雪消融，到处高山流水，杜鹃花灿烂绚丽，林中则百鸟轻鸣，群猴嬉戏。到了秋季，白茫雪山的自然景观则更别有情致。
站在滇藏公路上，就置身在丰富多彩，如醉如痴的景物里。特别使人沉醉的是从远到近所呈现的那种景物色调上的强烈的立体感。远处是雪山，在清明秋空里，极高、极白、极远。在这种高远雄奇的峰峦之下，林海尽为秋色所染，红、黄、绿层次井然，特别是那如火如霞的红色秋叶，像雪山的灵魂，尽情地展现着多情的姿态，让人深悟深林高山的豪爽热烈。长满灌木林的草甸草坡雪茶点布；若隐若现的流水在林海中穿行，仿佛雪山之魂。置身于其中，让人有一种返朴归真的感觉。
